Cagayan de Oro at the center of gold-rich areas based on old Mindanao Map (1894)

Here's an old Mindanao map attached to a book written by Jesuit priest published in 1894 and found in a library in Oxford by a Jesuit priest a hundred years ago (Fr. Albert Alejo a.k.a Paring Bert) --- in 1994.

Tree of Life

A couple of days after the commemoration of 'Sendong', the city government of Cagayan de Oro unveiled the Tree of Life which is said to be the savior of more than 50 residents during the wake of the typhoon.

Vicente de Lara Park glitters at Night

Dubbed by many kagay-anons as the 'park that never sleeps' once again glitters at night as Christmas is fast approaching. Here are photos taken at Vicente de Lara Park along Velez street and a few blocks from Centrio or commonly known as McArthur Park.

Centrio Tower sales update: only 51 units left

There are only 51 units left out of 522, as revealed by latest sales inventory of Centrio Tower as of December 11, 2012. Centrio Tower is Ayala’s first high rise condominium project in Cagayan de Oro City.
As shown below, only one 2-bedroom unit is left while the rest are studio units. All 1-bedroom units are sold out. You’ll probably notice all units along Macajalar View are sold out. The highest available unit is a studio unit on the 11th floor. The only available 2-bedroom unit is at the 2nd floor. Click the image below for larger view.

Jamie Joy Bantigue to compete for Miss PASUC 2012

Pamahaw Espesyal TV host and former Miss Kagay-an 2011 candidate Jamie Joy Bantigue will be competing for Miss Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) 2012.

She posted this on her facebook account. Miss PASUC 2012 will feature the various Miss PASUC winners in all regions in the country.

James Tallam of Kenya clocked 2 hours, 24 minutes and 28 seconds to top the 42-kilometer Prycegas International Marathon in Cagayan de Oro City held last Sunday, December 2, 2012.
Tallam edged fellow Kenyans David Kipsang and Abraham Missos. In the distaff side, Kenyan Jepkorir Monik Mengic clocked three hours, six minutes and 19 seconds to bag the women’s crown.
Veteran runner Miscelle Gilbuena clocked 3:08.52 to finish second, while Cresabel Cadion placed third with a time of 3:20.30. In the 21k, Kenyan Willy Rotich grabbed the top spot with a time of 1:08.03 while Kenyan Jackeline Nzivo outran Mary Joy Tabal in the distaff side with a time of 1:22.39. Sonny Wagdos and Crisylen Jaro topped the 5k category with times of 14:52.10 and 18:54, respectively.
The race started and finished at Cagayan de Oro Gardens. The event was overshadowed by the preparations for the coming of super typhoon Bopha.

The above photo is the Gateway Towers 1 and 2 with the Limketkai Hotel 1 as the tallest building in Mindanao with 19F. Soon, it will be dwarfed by his older brother, the Limketkai Tower 2 which is 36F which is now under construction. The photo was taken at the 3rd floor of Centrio Mall.

Here's a shot taken along the National Highway of Barangay Lapasan. At the right is the city's newest hotel----SOGO HOTEL (red and yellow building) which will soon to open.

Laguindingan Airport to use VFR for planned soft opening in January 2013

Based on the latest report update by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) dated October 2012 but uploaded on the web just yesterday, the planned soft opening of Laguindingan Airport in January next year will use Visual Flight Rule (VFR).
By definition, Visual flight rules (VFR) are a set of regulations under which a pilot operates an aircraft in weather conditions generally clear enough to allow the pilot to see where the aircraft is going. Specifically, the weather must be better than basic VFR weather minima, i.e. in visual meteorological conditions (VMC), as specified in the rules of the relevant aviation authority. The pilot must be able to operate the aircraft with visual reference to the ground, and by visually avoiding obstructions and other aircraft.

36th National Marathon 2012 Cagayan de Oro City Leg set this Sunday, Nov. 25

The Cagayan de Oro City leg of the 36th National Milo Marathon is set this Sunday, November 25, 2012.

It has been almost one year after that tragic moment left by Tropical Storm 'Sendong' in the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan. Many have lost their loved ones, some are still missing and the cities remained into ruins with major infrastructures left damaged.

THE Traffic Management Board (TMB) is requesting the media and firms to use “CdeO” in their websites, stationeries, identification cards, official communications and banners, signs, posters, advertisements and other similar materials.

JICA Engineers to commence Pre-site Inspection for River Control Project this week
