Media Village: Soon to rise in CDO

A MEDIA village will soon be constructed in the city for the members of the Cagayan de Oro Press Club (COPC) through the initiative of 2nd District Representative Rufus Rodriguez.

COPC President Msgr. Elmer Abacahin announced the good news during the club’s 61st founding anniversary on Saturday.
Abacahin said Rodriguez will provide a two-hectare land in upper Barangay Gusa, to be sourced out under his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).
He said the project will be done in cooperation with the National Housing Authority (NHA).
“By next month, the media village project will formally start with the clearing of the area where almost 300 houses will be constructed,” Abacahin said.
He assured that qualified COPC members and even non-members can avail of the house and lot at the media village.
However, Abacahin said their first priorities are those media practitioners who were affected by last year’s tropical storm Sendong.
“I have already assigned a committee that would handle the project and screen the beneficiaries,” he said.
Abacahin said beneficiaries are required to pay a minimal amount but will be computed based on their income.
“The media village will provide a decent house to our local media who have worked hard to provide accurate news to the public. It’s time they will be given this benefit that they can treasure for the rest of their life,” he said.
During Saturday’s anniversary celebration, Abacahin held a raffle to the first three COPC members who can avail of the house and lot at the media village.
Among those who won are Froilan Gallardo, Remie Agdon and Philip Jaudian.
Abacahin said Gallardo, Agdon and Jaudian will have the privilege “to own their house and lot without questions.”
He said another 10 lucky COPC members will also be chosen through a raffle during the club’s Christmas party in December.
The media village is expected to be finished before 2013 ends.
